We here at GoGoDiesel.com are big fans of Valvoline Premium Blue. After talking with numerous customers about injector related concerns and repeat repairs for damaged injectors, the a large percentage have been running Rotella 15w-40. The most common reason for them running the nasty Rotella stuff was it was "cheap, easy to get at WalMart, and what they ran in their 7.3L or OTR truck for years". My personal experience with Rotella has shown me that the oil does not stand up to the abuse the 6.0L puts on oil. The Premium Blue is carried at Napa and Pep Boys, or can be found with the locator at www.valvoline.com (http://www.valvoline.com). Here is a quick description from their site:

Premium Blue 15w-40 Conventional:

Formulated with Dispersive Polymer Technology (DPT), Premium Blue 15W40 isolates soot particles so there's no clumping and blocking of filter pores. Less filter restriction means better lubrication flow for better engine protection and long life. Premium Blue was put through vigorous testing with Cummins Inc. It has proven field performance in 2002, low-emission EGR engines and provides advanced lubricant performance in modern low-emission diesel engines.

Provides advanced soot control and cold-start protection
Reduced oil filter restriction at high soot levels
Higher TBN level and wear protection for long-life performance
Balanced formulation helps maximize engine durability
Endorsed and recommended by Cummins Inc.
Selected for use in the 2003 Dodge Cummins Lap of America field test
Endorsed and recommended by Cummins for use in Dodge Ram Turbo DieselsPremium Blue Extreme 5w-40 Full Synthetic:

This full synthetic engine oil is formulated with high-quality synthetic base stocks and a boosted additive system to help meet the demands of modern diesel engines that operate under a wide variety of service conditions.

Premium Blue Extreme was put through rigorous testing with Cummins Inc. It delivers outstanding engine cleanliness, reduced wear, oil consumption control and fuel economy.
Enhanced fuel economy potential over conventional oils
Superior synthetic base stocks provide faster, safe starts during freezing weather and enhanced thermal properties for hot weather operations
Enhanced valve train wear protection and reduced oil filter restriction at high soot levels
Reduced high temperature carbon build-up and ring/liner wear protection lead to improved oil consumption control
Excellent oxidation, foam and corrosion inhibition
Features Dispersive Polymer Technology (DPT) for superior soot control in today's engines with cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)
Endorsed and recommended by Cummins Inc.
Selected for use in the 2003 Dodge Cummins Lap of America field test
Endorsed and recommended by Cummins for use in Dodge Ram Turbo DieselWe are working on getting the oil in stock for people in remote locations that don't have access to Napa or Pep Boys.

I requested the 5w but the guy at the ford house said he never heard of it.

Hi Val,
Then the guy was a moron. Most synthetic diesel oil is 5w 40 with a few exceptions like Royal Purple (junk) and Amsoil. Unless you weren't after Synthetic, then 10w 30 or 15w 40 are the two options.

Im a fan of technology. Synthetic will be the way to go. Just for the simple stuff like better flow over a wider range of temperatures and a higher resistance to breaking down.

ok then Valvoline sythetic it is. Anyone heard of Cenpeco? We use their fuel additive at work in our heavy equipment. They say that if you use their synthetic oil they guarantee it to be the best and if there are any problems with your motor they will pay for it.

I used to use CENPECO lubes in heavy trucks. That was pre-synthetic days, it was good, but was normally inexpensive more than "the best"

With that, I'd look at ratings first and see if it meets 6.0 requirements. It may not

I could find the extreme blue anywhere. I ended up getting the premium blue and changed it last night. First change at 2400 miles and didnt want to wait any longer. That was easy. I noticed in the owners manual that the valvoline oil doesnt really meet the recommended requirements but meets the minimum if the recommended can't be found. What does everyone think of Mack oil? I can get all I want for free in the 15w-40.
