Doug, I know you don't like pane on a 6.0 and I was wondering if you know of any systems that work well yet with the 6.0?
Tell me again why it is that you don't like pane on these trucks.
I am driving about 140 miles a day, and most of that is pulling and getting between 9 and 10 mpg is killing me @ 2.65 a gallon.
I saw a add in Diesel Power that claims a 6.0 can go from 18 to 27 mpg empty. Figure even a slight increase in mileage while pulling would quickly justify the extra cost of pane and the kit. It would be nice to get the 14 mpg pulling I used to get when it was new.
Gimme your thoughts!

I don't like propane as a power adder. But the propane can be used as a mpg booster. You are basically trading one cost for another though. And figure almost $1000 dollars to get the propane setup right.

But the $1,000 is a one time deal right? Besides the pane of course.
I am averaging $1,078 per month in fuel just for work, not counting personal miles either. If I could get back up to 14 mpg I would be saving about 20 gallons per month @ $2.65 would be about $50. That would be about a 2 year pay back including propane.
That is also figuring a 4 mpg increase. What would be a realistic mpg expectation be?
What does it take to set it up right for my truck? What are the drawbacks besides filling a bottle? What are the dangers to the motor if something goes wrong? How do you think it will react with ULSD.
I am assuming that mpg will go down more with ULSD making the pay back shorter. What do you think?
And your right, I am not interested in more power from this, only mpg.

Our new 07 towboss was running 13.6mpg all the time. Towing, City, Highway didn't matter. AirAid goes in and the truck picked up 2mpg. My dually before i lowered it and took the goodneck hitch out of it got mid 12s with the empty 40foot gooseneck on it and mid 10s with weight on it. And thats with 4.10s. Since the propane delivery is based off of boost pressure you will be using more of it in a towing situation. Alternatively we could also try a water/meth setup and run mostly water, which will drop your temps and bump up your power.

You could try to lowering the truck slightly.

Okay, you peaked my curiosity..
How would that work in the sub zero temps here?
explain more!!!!!!! What would the costs involved with a meth system be and what mpg gains would be realistic?
What would that do the cylinder pressures? Would I have to get studs?
Your add says works @ 25 psi of boost, pulling @ 65 to 75 mph I average 10 to 15 psi constant in high wind I will see 20 psi for 60+ miles

You need the little fuck you smiley, I think it would be appropriate here! We have had the lowered truck conversation before....LOL
I do agree it would help mpg, its just not practical for me and I like the height for winter snow and rough job sites.

The controller module is adjustable. You can change the on and peak outputs to the individuals needs.

Why so low? Are you towing big wt.?
I get 16.1 with 35's and have been getting high 17's with the stock tires.

Doug -
Can you post up some more info or a link to this water/meth injection. Joe told me that you installed it on a truck and then were taking it to a dyno the next day. What kind of results did you see? Is around $550 a ballpark figure to set it all up? Is it safe and would I have to change anything to run it?
Thanks,
Scott

The kit we put on the truck down here was a stage 3 kit which is in the 700 dollar range. The reason we went stage 3 is because the controller module acts like a boost gauge and a pyro. If you have gauges you can go stage2. We deal with the snow performance kits from www.snowperformance.net (http://www.snowperformance.net). We have not had a chance to get the truck back to the dyno, since the guy that owns the truck has been super busy.

So how safe is this and what are the benefits and drawbacks? Is it something I can install or is it a real pain in the ass? I assume I would need some new tunes to run it correctly.
How many gallons of the windshield washer fluid would it take to work for a 38 gallon tank of fuel? Are most of the washer fluids that you would buy at an auto parts store good enough for this or would I have to be ordering the "boost juice" all the time? What happens when the washer fluid runs out... will the truck still run alright?
Damn thats a lot of questions for ya.
I see your not on the dealer list... I do have $100 gift certificate for ATS.

If you get the snow kit, make sure you get a bigger water tank. The tank that comes with it is about worthless IMO.

Dont need to be on the dealer list. Thats if I wanted to spend a ton of money and buy a bunch of the product to sit on the shelf only to get them to advertise for me. Anyways. What we did on the truck down here was to use the windshield washer bottle instead of the 2 quart bottle that comes with the kit. I don't understand what you mean by how many gallons for a 38 gallon tank. The system is completely separate from how large of a fuel tank you have. You do not need new tunes for this to run correctly. The water just cools the intake charge and the meth gives it a boost in power. The washer fluid is the stuff that says POISON and CAN NOT BE MADE NON-POISONOUS. It contains up to 40% meth. If you run out of fluid the truck will run like it did before you added the kit. If you have a $100 dollar ATS gift certificate then use it. I'll still help you when you call or IM me at 1am while you are hooking it up.

I meant how many gallons of the washer fluid would get used to say a 38 gallon tank of fuel. Would I use say 1 gallon or so of the fluid per tank or would I have to refill it a couple times before I fill my tank again?
If I add this HP would I have to do anything to my tranny... figuring its the next weak link?
I figured you had to buy from one of those suppliers since you werent on the dealer list. Just thought we could save $100 off the top.

Its tough to estimate how much fluid you will use. Its injection is based on boost pressure so if you are always on it then its spraying it.

I spoke to a tech guy at Snow and he recommended the 8 gallon tank you mount in the bed, since that will not work for me he suggested the 7 qt. tank and mount it any where it will fit.
The guy also said pulling heavy with a diesel and using the 7 qt tank I could expect about 220 miles per tank.
With a empty truck 600 to possibly 800 miles to a 7 qt tank.
Far as added fuel economy, he said somewhere between 3 and 4 mpg increase, pulling and empty. Some have claimed more but 3 to 4 is all he would commit to.
This appears to be a very safe and convenient way to go!
The tech guy also said, if you want to custom mix without buying wiper fluid and don't have a convenient place to buy meth, that those little yellow bottles of HEET you add to gas tanks was 99.9% meth.
Nummit,
My trailer has gotten a little heavier over the year but only three or four hundred pounds. My 14 mpg pulling 10,000 pounds left with the infamous October 03 tow/haul neuter flash. I used to get 12 and lost another 2 mpg with the intro of LSD. I will anticipate loosing another 2 to 3 with the up and coming ULSD.
so doug - i used to run pane (for mpg) and i liked it, but sold the setup a while back. ive never run water/meth.... if i wanted to grab back some more MPG but no more power - which would you say to go with for the best results? im betting water/meth?
whats the stage 2 kit running (since i have gauges)?
PSDPlayer

The stage 2 kit is a little over 500. You can rig up your own tank instead of buying that big 8 gallon one from me. But if you like the snow tank its like 160bucks. Water is really inexpensive to put in there and running the washer fluid is pretty cheap as well.

man if i didnt have the puking issues pulling a trailer this would be nice. I went from 15 town 17 freeway lifted on 35's to 11-12 all around with a new flash in 05. Bother were hand calulated and empty. I hope it gets better but dont see too much future. Love to want all this stuff though.

ya i used mine as MPG booster and it helped a good bit - i wish i still had it  i still have the hole for the injection tho.... my dealer thinks its funny :p

i got pane on mine but i havent seen much of a mpg boost, maybe 2..but not sure if that justifies buying the propane. i think i have mine set up for power though, if i turn it down some, it would probably last longer..?

when mine was set up for power, i got a lot more than 2mpg increase.
