View Full Version : Hiccups that hurt!

When I pull my camper up hill with a steady foot on the pedal or with the cruse control on @ 1800 rpm with about 15 to 18 psi of boost the truck will hiccup and it gets pretty violent sometimes. I can't tell if it's the tranny or motor.
At first I thought it was programing. I have tried several different programs and stock. I owe you an apology Doug, it's not programming.

The other observation I have made is, with the truck in park and foot on the pedal steady @ 1800 rpm it will miss and run rough enough to shake the truck.

My work trailer weighs about the same as the camper and never has this issue. WTF!

Soon as this is figured out, I will be ordering one of those fancy water meth kits!

Jay, next time it starts giving you the hiccups, tap on the brakes and see if it stops.

So its doing it stock now. And only with the pop-up and not the work trailer?

Pop up!:upyours: LMAO!

Yes, only with the 10,000 pound pop up and not with the work trailer. I don't get it. Both of the trailers weigh about the same but, the camper is taller and wider so it pushes more wind. Thats the only difference I can think of.

With no engine load, shouldn't it run smooth at all rpms or is a miss normal?

I find it coincidence that the motor shudders at the same rpm as the hiccups occur. 1800ish

Can someone please jump in their truck and rev it from 1800 to 2000 ish rpm and hold it there please? Then let me know if it's smooth or if you feel a miss or shudder.

I would like to see if other trucks act similar before I drop the 100 bucks on warranty.

Thanks

mine seems to be very smooth, no studdering or hiccups of any kind

Mine doesn't do it. But it sounds like a check valve in the high pressure system. http://www.gogodiesel.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3

Okay,
I just got back from the dealer and the tech did a few quick tests in the lot that came up with nothing and agreed there is something wrong, he said he has never heard a 6.oh, oh make this kind of miss.

The first thing he threw out was that it sounded like a weak valve spring or injector maybe even the egr. I just kept my mouth shut about the egr! LOL

I have a appointment next Friday and will let you know more

my dads dually with the tow file in it, at high altitude, at about 6000ft and higher, sometimes when your about halfway running it, pulling my dads flatbed trailer with 2 heavy quads and 2 dirtbikes, in between 10-17 psi of boost the boost gauge would flutter and like it was farting or something. it only does it at high altitude and not where we live, but we thought it could be the turbo but its not doing it here in oklahoma?

froggy were are the hpop check valves they are talking about located?

They are in the high pressure rail.

is it the turbo farting?

Nope, it is more like shuddering of the truck. You can hear it suck air and then stop sucking air, but it happens very fast. I have had the same thing happen to me before.

If you can get it to do it at a steady rpm,id say its the check valves in the oil rails. iv only seen this once and did not have any luck tracking down which side it was so i replaced both. it did fix it. anyone know how to find witch side is the culprit?

What about removing these check valves for more hpop with bigger injectors...bad idea...good idea...? Are these the AWA (acustic wave attenuators) I read about in the 6.0 bible? Are they restrictive in nature...I understand the IPR only allows so much psi...but some trucks have a problem making the 4000psi with really big injectors ...and I thought this might help..

you dont want to remove the check valves unless they are bad. you would have all kinds of running problems without them. they are a check valve not a awa fitting. im not 100% sure your truck would even start without them... . engines that dont make the right hpop pressure may need a new pump.:)

your right paul,
they are neccessary to hold hpop to the next start event ...so without them probably really long crank times if it cranks period...just trying to think outside the box....

Well guys,
I guess we will never really know what was wrong with my truck..

I just traded it for a 07!:D :D

So I guess you could say I have dealt with the problem accordingly! LOL
