When cruzing at 35 mph the truck will surge like it wants to down shift. I'm running the Looney file. I didn't buy this from you but would like your input.
Thanks

Since your tires are not the stock ones I would suggest getting something calibrated. Customer of mine on 38s was off 9mph at 20mph. So saying 35mph is really something else. If its in the tune then it would be easier to find the problem. At 35mph fake there could be an upshift and a downshift too close together. There could also be a converter lock or unlock too close together. Other thoughts could be in which file is in the truck.

It happens to be the Looney File. The tires are 35" and are close to stock. I think its close to 4 miles off. I think its the upshift downshift idea let me know if you can help.

you still might want to consider a tru-speed or the like, youll be glad you got one in the long run

Only thing I can do to help is to send you a file to see if it takes care of it.

except when you go to sell the truck and the actual mileage is shown on the odometer, not a lower one...

well get a dash mounted GPS and use it as your speedo then LOL^^

Does it really matter what the mileage is? IF you were that concerned about it I would think you would find another way to lower it instead of just living with the shift problems.

Buy Dougs race file and he will set it for your tires. I have 38s on mine and run his race file everyday and I dont have any problems like what you are talking about. I know Doug figured out my rotations per mile and set my trans for the tires.
Have you tried DJ's customer service? What did he think?
By the way, I have a Speed Wizard in my truck from MerlinControls.com and it works perfectly. I have checked my speedometer via gps and it has been dead on since I programmed it. Its a lot easier to use than a Superlift Tru-Speed.

What was the cost of the speed wizard?

I think that is one of the quirks of DJ's tune.
Mine does the same thing but I figured it was the converter locking and unlocking at 35 mph. 34 is ok and 37 is ok but inbetween is up/down...up/down...
Not a real biggie since I rarely maintain a constant speed anyway. :D

No I haven't called DJ yet because of his big move blah blah blah. Nummit, I think you have the same setup as me. Running 35" tires. I think I will call and see if its an easy fix.
Cooled in South Florida today 53 degrees. You should see the old people with big coats , hats and gloves.

It could be other things at 35 to cause a surge. Deppends on the RPM fluctuation. 150 RPM up and down is usually the converter. But the VGT in the turbo at low speed can do it. ICP control loop can do it. There are other factors.

Mine is the 150 rpm drop like you described.
I have it with 35's or stock tires,

They are going to be sending me tunes to try out. Its an old tune that was for the track only set up. The new Looney file is more street able.

I have those Looney files as well. It has done that one me from day one. From 30MPH-50MPH it doesn't know what gear to use and keeps hopping back and forth...it would do the surging thing too trying to drive at a steady speed as well...

How long have you had this tune and did you try calling DJ to get it fixed? I don't have any problems from 30 to 50. Its just when I'm cruzing at 35 it wants to shift but doesn't. I'll keep you intouch to the new file. IMO the looney is great for the track and thats what it was designed for WOT

I told him about it and he said what I thought he was going to say. “That tunes made for racing, not riding around”.
What it does is when you are cruising at a steady speed (let’s just say 40MPH) the transmission acts like it can’t figure out what gear it wants to be in, and it continually shifts up and down.
Also it seems like if you let off the throttle for a split second in overdrive it will shift down when getting back into the throttle…even if you just barely touch it…
It’s a great tune at the track…I just don’t like riding around on it all the time because of the shifting issues at steady throttle. On a side note his street tune doesn’t do any of that in my truck.

Sounds like the torque table isn't accurate.

I also run Dougs race tune 90% of the time with no problems

I have run all three of my files from Doug.
Miles on each tune...
Tow - 5 or so.
Street - 5 or so.
Race - about 9,700. Mine drives perfect.

Well, I went down to see DJ today and got a Looney tune. I was running Eric's Extereme Street file. I didn't encounter any kind of 30-50mph issues like you did. It was a 2 hour ride home too and it wasn't really highway. I dig the Looney. I also dig Eric's too as well. They both have their positives and negitives. I'd like to get a Tadd's tune as well and compare them all. Could be interesting , but yet, could be boring being they are so close together. But.... I dig the Looney and the Extreme.... Looney does seem a little more streetable, but I am sure Eric could make adjustments as well. DJ and Vivan are Top Notch to hang out with for a couple of hours. They'll teach you some things that's for sure.

Like Adam said... I just found out about Doug. Kinda hard to have one when you've never heard of the guy... I'm sure I will get one. Going to do other things first.
