Correct

elaborate! is the wheel being made for them?

PSDPlayer
11-16-2006, 12:55 PM
No. Everything is from something else. You can put a wheel from at GT55 on it but the exhaust side will choke.

mikeym
11-16-2006, 12:58 PM
i think i remember the duramax turbo being similar, would those wheels swap out, or would that be a waste of time. if everything swaps out, you should be able to find a used turbo that its coming off for just a couple hundred bucks...

would a wheel/housing off something like a gt40 or gt42 swap over with some modifications?

Thats fine Rich, thats what we are waiting on....But damn are they gold plated?:upyours:

I doubt they're gold plated...we're the wrong demographic. LOL

I don't even know if Garrett wil ever release these for sale...I guess it depends, in part, on how they do on mine and Tim's trucks. I have high hopes for them...and our host here will be doing the tuning on mine...so if good things can be made to happen...I'm sure he'll make that happen.

I know we've all waited far too long for replacement turbos that people can actually afford...and bolt right on....the wait may be coming to an end though.

Surely is the price is right and it makes good HP, Garret will release it...Hell thats just business.

They say the one I'm testing will support 600 RWHP on #2 only...easily.
I have the fuel...so we'll see.

The one Tim will test is close to the BDP turbo I run now. There should be no surge issues since this is a ground up design...not a modified stocker....although I personally have never had any surge issues with mine. Damned if I know why.

heinzboy
11-16-2006, 10:43 PM
What tunes are you running Rich? I still say the surge is in the tunes.....if it wasnt than why dont the stock turbo surge?

yea but the surging is a concern for most folks...

Robert says it does not surge. There are details on the other site (Tadd chimes in), so you can see. It is a couple other things on top of the Beans/LIPD approach. But basically still a stock unit. It is the one Robert made some big runs with last summer and earlier this year pulling (sounds f-in awesome). I would like to see a few out there to confirm the no surge, then it probably makes sense for people who want to comfortably get in over 500RWHP, maybe 525-550 even.

Ralph

ps, hi everyone, 1st post here!

Hey Ralph...
I was told that their turbo is $2k + 700 for the core charge until you send in your and then they refund that amount. I'd need some serious HP to spend $2k though. Need to see some dyno results.

I will wait until the other options are available before I make a purchase. Sometimes I wonder if we are spoiled because the SCT gives us great HP for really cheap money.

from what i understand, a turbo by itself is good for nothing but lower egts. it has got to be paired with injectors/fuel system, and preferably an intercooler to make the power and keep the egts in check. if youre doing them step by step, i think intercooler should be first, then injectors/fuel system, then the turbo last.

I would agree with you on that, but you left out headstuds.....:D

I got my studs done and swapping out the turbo I think I'd do next so I'm not dumping "more" fuel than my stock turbo can keep up with... I can only do things a bit at a time... ($$$)

The stock turbo can outfeed the stock injectors.

Ralph

ps, I would like to see HP numbers, but I suspect it is good for 50-80, maybe even 100 at the wheels (with the right fuel and IC).

Yes, and then after you get the fuel system and sticks, its all going to depend on the tuners to bring the most out of it.
