View Full Version : X gas tank on 250/350
can it be done? without wanting to shoot myself in the head?
i have been told - but haven’t been under one to check....at least that i can recall... that the gas tanks on excursions are basically where the spare tire goes on the trucks.
id love to throw one under there, but i dont know how much of a PITA it would be. so what do you guys think - input?

It can be done but you said it a pain in the ass. i used a pump to transfer the fuel to the oem tank when it got empty..only problem was the driver dont know when to turn the toggel switch on........ran it out of fuel once.#$%$### 3 days later it starts droping injectors..#$%^&

hmmm..... so youre saying you didnt know when the X tank was empty? how about getting another gauge - i know autometer makes fuel gauges?
was it a pain to install or just a pain to use? the idea of having about 2x the fuel and not loosing any bed space is pretty damn appealing: untill of course its time to pay for filling up  :upyours:

pictures courtsey of dan (DCSpecial) .... cause im too lazy to take a picture of mine. i only keep the stocker under there since it weighs something - lets just say it wouldnt do me much good.

just a pain to install, had to fab brackets and run the fill hose stuff like that. we didnt use a gauge, when the oem tank got low you just fliped the toggel switch and it would pump fuel into the oem tank. you could fuel while driving down the road if you wanted to.:D lots of room for the spare on a flatbed;)

I thought the same thing until I wasted a tire and could not have a replacement until 5 days later. Hell, I had to buy a WHOLE new set of Tires. That was an expensive Mistake.

What good does a spare in the garage do when your 2000 miles away like I was?

If you own a dually then you have 2 spares all the time. Single rear wheel trucks don't have that luxury.

I've been thinking about doing this as a replacement for the stocker. I like the idea of all the weight back there for both weight distribution for handling and also weight transfer at the track. If I ever do it I'll just extend all the wiring back there so everything works, fill it through the bed floor and shave the factory fuel door.
Sounds good in my head anyway.
