doug, my bro has an 03 and is currently running a superchips tuner on it. he took it to a buddy of mine who works at ford and stock map sensor show hes making 18 psi. with his tuner installed on performance setting he is only make a max of 15 psi no matter if he rolls into it or just punches it. We are in the process of installing gauges on it. How much better do you think switching to an sct tuned by you would be than the superchips and what kind of tunes can you get us. I realize its no 6.0 but he does towing and would like to know if there is any kind of transmission tuning that can be done like on the 6.0 for braking and what not. This is all out of my league since i only know very little and what i know is about the 6.0. Thanks doug!!

Find out if the wastegate is sealing completely inside the exhaust housing. Also check to be sure the exhaust back pressure butterfly isn't sticking partially shut. As far as switching to the SCT. I had Gary at Southern Diesel put an SCT in his 7.3. He has had damn near every chip known to the 7.3L world. He had tried all different programmers and he loved the SCT over all of them. He kept calling me while he was driving and telling me about the friggin permanent grin on his face.

we will check that stuff, but as far as what you can do with the tunes where do we stand? he has a fifth wheel but is looking to go to a bigger toyhauler. Thanks for being speedy!!

I wouldn't just try a different programmer if the truck isn't running right without a programmer in it. What else is done to the truck?

it runs right with it out of it. he gets 18-19 psi stock but with the tuner in it max's out at 15 so i dont know if its tuning. hes got an airaid intake and a turbo back exhaust. other than that it is stock. well its lifted on 35's...

just because he is running less boost doesn't really mean anything..it may be a more "efficient" 15 PSI with the tuner in, then the 18 or 19 psi..with the tuner out

That truck should be building more than 20psi.

my buddy with an 02 7.3 has a superchips installed with air intake, and straight exhaust and i think his boost peaks at around 23-25

now that his gauges are installed he usually runns 22-23 and can hit 25. i think this is with his tuner in im not sure. so it appears where the tech was reading off the map sensor or whatever was off. boost gauge in manifold.
