SCT Troubles

alright, currently ive been running a banks power setup. well, the shifts werent very great so i decided to get an sct just to use for the trans shifting. well then i figured, thats a lot of money Just to get the trans, so i thought...well maybe ill sell the banks stuff and just use the sct and have a little cash back in my pocket!

well, heres the problem, ive tried out 2 different companies files so far, and i dont think either is working properly. first one the turbo would kinda go crazy on me, and the other the trans isnt shifting right and also think maybe some turbo problems..?

could anybody tell me exactly how their sct works on their trucks such as how the turbo acts, trans shifts, smoke, etc. so i can see if its right, the truck just needs to adjust to it, if it just needs to be tweaked more somewhere or what?

Also, i have the ford flash that eliminates the EBP, so i dont know if this is part of the problem? And, when testing using the sct only for power, i still have the banks hooked up, but its in setting 1 which is supposed to behave like stock so i can use the gauges still....is there any way the banks could still be interfering? if so i can unhook it and try that too, just a PITA to reinstall cuz you gotta go through all the levels at WOT, etc.

Sure you didn't give the tuners your preflash strategy? Read your pcm code again with the new flash, every time it gets flashed there is a new strategy or pcm code.
My 03 had the same ebp disable flash and it ran fine.

well, i didnt buy the sct until after i had all flashes done, hasnt been to the dealer or anything since ive had the tuner. does is sound like the tuner started with a wrong strategy #? only thing i know is i had either an O or 0 in it and didnt know for sure which it was...? that or need to completely unhook the banks, or tune needs tweaking...only things i can think of?!?

Go put the truck back to stock. Pull the 7 character strategy from it and post it.

you can, but it wont change the strategy in the truck. sometimes it will help it run better .... if only for a little while - its just a bandaid tho(if even that)

oh, that sucks! doin alright? so i guess its a dumb ? but whats TEC6 mean? after i got all the banks stuff off, it is running better. im trying to get a different tune though...all the ones i have now are mainly for the strip i think...fun to drive full throttle, but does behave as well normal in town driving. its like, drive like grandma or nascar, not really an inbetween.

btw, im going to sell the banks i guess and was going to buy gauges, anybody on here had experience with the quadzilla commander? seems pretty cool and for $300 its cheaper than buying a bunch of gauges...

TEC6 is just your code - what the program will be written for.
i dont know whos tune youre running, but most tuners wont send you a PURE race file unless you have some work done to the truck and know that you do in fact want/need a true race file. it is probable that yours isnt working 100% with your truck tho, some take a bit to get perfect.....id talk to doug and get a file from him.

quad can be a nice guy to talk to (they are about 20 min from me, ive done a lot of stuff with them when the 6.0 first came out), but dont bother giving him any money.....youre MUCH better off giving it to doug.

the files ive ran so far are insanity and xtreme street. which like i said, both are fast, but neither seem great for normal driving cuz both are like nothing with a little throttle pressure, but poke it down a little farther and its like you hit a nos button and just takes off. also, under light driving it doesnt shift the "best" but under WOT it shifts good, but seems like high rpms (4100) to be hittin all the time... i still have a plain street file and the xtreme race i have yet to try out though too.

well then 'get' away lol, i have not see it in person - but ill say that many of his products are 'quite similar' to some other products on the market.
i just dont plan on giving him any money for anything any time soon, esp for performance stuff..... but thats a personal thing.

oic....well now i think i may have another problem....! just a few minutes ago i was leaving a place and had to turn left, playin around i got on it kicked sideways a few times and did end up hitting the rev limiter and let off...i had a sct street tune installed and after this i got to a stop light and started driving again, and the programmer is not there....i would drive and try to get on it and it drove just like it was stock, no extra power...didnt have any CEL, nothing was getting hot, checked to see if any fluids lost, oil, coolant, everythings fine, hooked up the sct and no codes showed up...WHAT happened??

i had the sct programmed on the truck, workin fine, did that burnout and its runnin like its stock. i havent shut it off or tried to detune then retune or anything yet, but jw if this has happened before of if i fucked somethin up or what...?

i have NEVER experienced anything like that. I know someone (bullydog maybe?) has a programmer that ‘runs out’ after a specified time, while I have never heard of it before I GUESS a programmer could write something like that into a file? Dunno?
You pop the hood to see if you blew off a CAC or something?

ya, i popped the hood and checked for loose turbo/IC tubes, etc. didnt see any. need to hurry up and get the boost gauge in, sure that would help! and didnt see any leaks or anything. i did return it to stock and load another file so ill find out today if its working again...that shit freaked me out though! especially since it just felt stock, not really anything "wrong" with it...

I was checking out your sig, and I noticed you have propane.
The majority of people who run pane on a 6.0 usually end up taking it off because of problems it causes.

I would take everything aftermarket (power adders) off and start over, then put the parts back on one at a time over the course of a few weeks. When your problem reappears you know the culprit. Just throwing the thought out there.

My 03' was a TEC6 and I have dozens of files for it that all worked fine.
If it is a SCT issue, Doug is the right man to fix it!

honestly, i dont hardly even use the pane...sometimes traveling for mpg, and sometimes just to speed up a little more, but not for everyday driving....only thing i had on last night was intake, exhaust, and street tune. think after i shut it off and retuned it it may be ok...hoping so anyways..! i kindof wish i wouldof got nos now, but i screwed myself enough buying and selling banks, so for now ill just keep the pane and maybe trade in down the road if my egts start getting too high.

I've ran a lot of the tunes out there and I run Doug's race file as my daily driver. It has really nice shifting whether you are driving normal or driving like a race car driver. The power is very consistent throughout the RPM's, and you can definately tell a HUGE difference over stock just driving around.

I had a problem similar to what you are experiencing when I was running the Diablo Predator...when I would gun it the truck would take off like crazy, then all of a sudden it had no more power than stock when I'd hit about 2nd gear or so...it would do that all the time...the power was there one second and the next I was running stock. In the end there was something wrong with the tuner. They said they would take it back and I told them "Thank you very much, but I think I'll just take the SCT now..." Best move I've made!

well, i actually have since found out the cause...it was only doing it running a street tune from ID...he said it was going into "failsafe" mode. which is the reason after turning off the truck it was back to normal. he said he could turn it back some though so it wouldnt hit it like that.

Even if there is a failsafe mode why would a street tune be hitting it?? I could see a straight up racing tune hitting it...

I have run ID's street tune and it's not as strong as Doug or DJ's race tunes by any means so I would think they would hit this failsafe mode first...
