yep they were long, but pretty informative.
10k oil changes

pdf regeneration "exhaust or engine may change sounds"

them funlky tailpipe diffusers really have me wondering just hw HOT the exhaust is going to be after a regen cycle
or worse yet some rancher has the truck idling in a field and it catches a few cows on fire...... MOOOOOW

Diesel Particulate Filter
The diesel particulate filter collects the soot and ash particles that are present in the exhaust gas of diesel engines. The diesel particulate filter assembly typically consists of active precious metals deposited on a substrate filter. The exhaust gas is forced to flow through the walls of the porous substrate and exit through the adjoining channels. The particulates that are larger than the pore size of the walls are trapped for regeneration. During regeneration the temperature in the diesel particulate filter increases to greater than 550°C (1,022°F). At this temperature the soot in the diesel particulate filter burns and becomes ash. The precious metal washcoat promotes the regeneration of the trapped particulates through the heat-generating reaction and catalyzes the untreated exhaust gas. The substrate filter is held in the metal shell by a ceramic fiber support system. The support system makes up the size differences that occur due to thermal expansion and maintains a uniform holding force on the substrate filter.

If you watch the "operation" it looks like mods and warranty will no longer fly:( It says, the computer remembers and will tattle on you!:upyours: Why doesn't Dodge and Chevy have that stupid diffuser? Give it a little time and I bet they will come up with a better way. Hell, that exhaust tip ain't even chrome.

It will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

Unless that was directed at my statement, I am thinking the same thing about the new EPA bull shit!

Remember the cars from the early to mid 80's with all of the air pumps and vacuum lines that did absolutely nothing except for make the car a bitch to work on.
Diesel is going through a similar growing pain now. In a few years I am sure they will find better ways and it will get better.

Buy a 07' or wait a number of years until they figure all of this out. IMHO

Those air hoses and vacuum lines were part of the AIR system. Air Inhection Recirculation. You could call it thermactor as well. There was an air pump and hoses to pump air into the catalytic converter to heat it up to burn the fuel. The vacuum lines to the diverter valves allowed the PCM to open them up to allow the air to pump into the exhaust.

I watched the thing and all I heard was...

no modifications like tuners, chips, exhaust, etc...

no playing in the mud (might clog up our ugly ass tailpipe)

no blowing smoke (gotta cater to all those fuckin' hippies that are complainin' bout Doug blowin' smoke on them in traffic)

and most importantly....NO DAMN FUN!!

You know what...I'll send out a big "FUCK YOU" to Ford right now. :upyours:

you do know that euro diesels have had particulate filters for some time now right?
they are one of the reasons we couldnt get many euro diesels here... or rather our piss poor fuel was……as it woud royally fuck up the emissions stuff. This is NOT akin to some 80s BS; if anything its slightly similar to a catalytic converter.
while i love it....and hope it continues to improve, diesel tech in america is crap - ya we can make them go fast and blow smoke, but big deal.Theyre not efficient and theyre not clean. At all. Period.
