Just wondering about this, and it might be a stupid question, but won’t know until I ask I guess…

I was thinking about how great of a launch I got last time racing on the street. Then I was thinking about how shitty of a launch I was getting at the track…spinning all four out of the hole.

The only thing I came up with was that when I launched last time racing on the street I was about on a full tank…maybe ¾ at the lowest. When we ran at the track I was running more like ¼ of a tank…

So which would be better for the track? I could see the extra weight on the back end paying off with more fuel, but I can also see it hurting as well making the truck heavier coming down the track…

Lots of Variables come into play when launching at the track. On a full boost launch, i can spin all 6 tires at this track here. How the track is preppred makes a huge difference as well as temps on the track.

My suggestion would be to lower your boost off the line so you don't spin. Weight will effect ETs but Traction will effect 60ft times, No?

In case you wanted to know what diesel weighs here you go.
Diesel fuel weighs anywhere from 7 pounds a gallon to around 7.2 pounds a gallon depending which blend you use.

Cool. I was talking to DJ earlier and he said that he has always found with anything under a 1/2 a tank he finds his e/t a little slower than if he were running over 1/2.

I'll try tomm. running a full tank just to see for sure if that will help me hook off the line.

thought that was common knowledge brad?

hd250,

DJ is also 2wd, and needs all the traction he can get. in a 4wd, you want her as light as you can manage.

I am 4wd, but the back is dipping down pretty hard on that takeoff isn't it?? That would force a lot of the traction to be held up on the back...

Anyhow, I'm spinning hard coming off the line.

DJ knows that I am 4x4 and I told him that I am launching in 4wd. He said it doesn't matter either way...if I'm spinning on the line running a full tank is going to help more than it will hurt.

i would say right around 1/2 tank in a 4x4. that way your not adding too much extra weight, but your also not going to slosh the fuel enough to possibly starve the injectors. I launch at 10 psi boost which i think is around 2000 rpms and i can hear my tires breaking loose no matter so i never launch higher than that.

If you are too low on fuel the 05 and newer will pull the power back. Also have had issues with the fuel level thing in the tank getting stuck in the full posistion when you don't have enough fuel in there also.

And why is this? and when is it too low that is starts pulling the power back?
