Adam and I were at dynamic turbo today getting a nos refill. I saw the stuff on the shelf and joked about it. Was the guys truck overheating or puking?

I always figured, just about any thing you add to oil or antifreeze to be "snake oil".

I did a water pump a number of years ago, and the kid behind the counter told me, I "NEED" to put this stuff (not Purple Ice) in my antifreeze to help lubricate the bearings to make it last.

I laughed and took the time to explain, that if theres antifreeze reaching the bearings the pump is already shot because the seal was bad. This kid even went through the hassle of pulling 3 different pumps off the shelf just to see if I was right!

He showed me the bottle and sure shit, it said helps lubricate bearings and seals! I almost shit my self! Thats when I lost faith in additives.

I always get a charge out of the pimply faced 16 year old behind the parts counter that the only thing he knows about cars, is what he read in a hot rod magazine while sitting on the shitter, telling me what I "NEED" to do! LMAO!

you know thats why you run power service right? the fumes from the burned fuel help to lubricate the muffler bearings

This is from their web site
They show a temp reduction of 28*, I cant see how this small temp reduction will prevent or eliminate puking.

Purple Ice is a high performance, synthetic, radiator coolant additive for both gasoline and diesel engines. It is formulated to reduce the surface tension of the coolant, which improves heat transfer through the cooling system while providing additional protection against rust, corrosion and erosion.

Purple Ice prevents the formation of scale deposits in the radiator for optimum coolant flow and lubricates the seals of the water pump. It is ideal for use in straight water racing applications or in antifreeze / water mixtures.

Purple Ice is compatible with traditional ethylene glycol antifreeze (green) and GM Dex-CoolŪ antifreeze coolants.

Purple Ice should not be used in new radiators until anti-freeze has been cycled through the system. Contact Royal Purple’s Technical Support department for more information at 888-382-6300 or Email Technical Support.

Reduces Coolant Temperatures

Extensive testing confirms Purple Ice reduces coolant temperatures better than comparable products while providing extra corrosion protection. For example, the average operating temperature of a 350 c.i.d. V8 engine (equipped with 160° thermostat) when dyno-tested with different coolants are:

A.
Standard mix of water and glycol (antifreeze)
228° F

B.
50 / 50 water / glycol mix with Purple Ice™ added
222° F

C.
Straight water (no corrosion protection)
220° F

D.
Water with Purple Ice™ added
200° F

Recommended Treat Rate

For use with antifreeze -- 1 oz. / quart of cooling system capacity

For straight water applications -- 1.5 oz. / quart of cooling system capacity

Note: Minimum of 20 percent antifreeze recommended in street driven vehicles.

puking is from pressure..

a flash boil is from heat.

isnt 30 degrees kindof a lot tho....i mean that could be the difference between 220 degrees (borderline being ok..) and 250 (not good)..?

So your saying that flash boiling the coolant won't create excess pressure (steam) causing a puke?
Either way, I can't see 28* being a difference maker

Are you saying the steam is causing the puking?

Is he using straight water with purple Ice or is he mixing it with antifreeze?

Just loosen the cap and this will let the air out of the gas bottle to prevent puking.

Yes I am a retard.:D

Blown head gasket puking won't get better with a coolant additive. If you want the motor to run cooler drill out the thermostat or find a way to put a lower temp spring on it.

drill out the thermostat

sounds..... safe

I did some research and found out this stuff is the same chit as water weter from red line and 40 below from pro-blend. alot of guy"s i race with use the water weter in there cars and it does help alittel. im not sure if his truck was puking or just getting hot but i know if it was puking that will not stop it period. if he was overheating it may have helped.

I have used the water-weter from redline.I use it like an addative.I add one bottle per fill-up.I have done this everytime I have flushed the coolin system. It seems to help, thats to say I haven't had any more problems. As far as how much does it bring the temp down.....??? I dont have an aftermarket guage but just go off the dummy guage in the dash.
