The trans holds ~16 quarts. Drain the pan. Start the engine. Drain the pan again. Do this a couple of times. The converter will drain and you will get the majority of the fluid out. I would recommend against removing the frame mounted filter unless it is a monday morning and the dealership is open. If it breaks or will not go back together, you can have the dealer order you one. Or if you are under warranty they may be nice enough to warranty it.

run engine with no tranny fluid, roger
drain it
maybe i shall let em do it, just in-case said frame filter decides to jump ship, I didnt realize we were still having issues with them breaking.
I geuss if they break it they bought it 185 looks better every day
dont float away down there
Thanks

Are you thinking damage will occur running it after you drain the pan?

nope just me doing something dumb like putting it in gear :D . its been know to happen, like trying to drive off with the rear tire off the ground, reaching into a closed window, i find these occurences are directly related to my beverage intake over the course of said maintenance items.
thanks
we are just limited by the facilites at the campground, no lifts , but lots of gravel :D

Once the pan is empty the trans will not engage.

I get from the dealer. That is the only source. That stuff is cheap anyways for the mileage you get from it. Think about it, its 23 per gallon for my synthetic premium blue. 10k miles for 92 dollars. Or 92 dollars for at least 30k miles for the trans.

Emptlying the lines and the cooler would yield more, but to be honest the ones that use the transmission internal pump to swap fluid mix in the pan. I know they claim 99% fluid change but, lets be realistic.
