ok, so bout 20k ago i had to have the turbo cleaned. all the symptoms the truck had then is happening now. basically, the truck starts fine, runs fine, runs and idols smooth but, when i get on it, medium pedal or more from a stop it has terrible lag and smoke pours out of the pipe until the turbo spools up. Does the same thing if im rolling along and then nail it. terrible lag, not alot of power crazy amount of smoke then turbo kicks in and the truck takes off and smoke clears. I am not running any smoke tunes at all. only doug's street tune. The egr valve is turned off. ( i think) Had the injectors tested and they tested fine. So Doug, and other experts, am i looking at pulling this damn turbo again? and before you all start telling me to run it hard and all that bull, let me throw in that I do run the truck hard. I dont dog it but it gets run. I dont run it for short trips and it does not sit . its run every day. It does not idol either. I run normal #2 fuel from the stations around here. So opinions please?????

what kind of oil are you running?

Ams Oil. going to switch to Valvoline on next change. someone told me today that someone ( couldnt remember who) is coming out with a fogger that you will plug in the back of the turbo to clean it. like an injector cleaner. is this even possible?

Doug, are you going to chime in here, not much help going on. Do you think its worth tearing the turbo apart or do you have another idea. If i tear the turbo apart is there a kit or parts that I need to buy for putting it back together? seals and such?

Create a signature so I will know everything thats on the truck.

only 4 inch turbo back exhaust, Air raid intake and your street tune. thats it.

alright , im assuming that the lack of response means we are in agreement that the turbo is the most likely cause.

This is why I asked for a signature. Am I supposed to guess all this stuff buy looking at the front end of the truck?
If its an 04 tough guy, then check the wiring to the EBP and check the sensor itself. If its corroded then you will get strange turbo issues.

Example. Had a truck with coolant in the connector of the EBP. Truck thought there was no exhaust back pressure. So it would command the turbo to close down to create drive pressure. Got it on the highway and the turbo shot the exhaust wheel out the downpipe.

Doug, wasnt being a "tough Guy" just jokin around. I forgot to put the year in the SIG i created, But i do expect you to remember the year from all the other times you asked. ( joke again ) anyway what is the EBP and where is it located? thanks

thanks again Heinz, got the turbo off and apart tonight. ill clean it and put it together tomorrow morn. pretty simple really, but thanks for you diagrams you sent, they helped alot. Turbo was a bit dirty but not as bad as some of the pics ive seen of others. By the way what does EPB stand for ?

Exhaust Back Pressure
jesus christ its an 04.
but is it an 04 engine, an 04 truck or both? look at the sticker on the engine to be sure

The next step before you yanked the turbo off would have been to look at the inlet screen to make sure the VGT is getting the oil pressure it needs to actuate the unison ring. Since you more than likely still have the braided stainless tube going to the turbo they are prone to comming apart. Little chunks get stuck in the inlet screen and keep the turbo from doing what its supposed to do.

Anything before a job2 06 truck will have the braided line. The new line is solid.

Yeah put the new line in it. Have you pulled the vgt solenoid out of the turbo?

if i did i didnt know it. i just took it apart to clean the veins. i honestly dont know what all that shit on it is really.. Im mechanically inclined but cant keep up with all the crap on todays Vehicles . So all the solenoids and sensors im not sure about.

Its the one in the middle. Held in by one bolt and a bracket. Take it out and check it out.

ok, what am i looking for when i check it out? also one other question. I gave the truck to the dealer today i wanted them to check the injectors ( didnt really trust the other guy who did them ) anyway got a call back from them and was told that the programer i have will damage the injectors. Well I put the truck back to stock when i took it there so how do they know? last dealer told me the same thing when i had the edge but i took that off before going to the dealer. So how are they knowing about that stuff , thought they couldnt tell. Also told me that the Air Raid filters dont flow correctly and that I'm damaging the turbo with it.
IMHO either theyre seeing something from the edge, looking REALY hard (or somehow seeing that some of the parameters have been out of range) or blowing smoke.
no matter which way you cut it....id see if there was another dealer in your area that might not be such a PITA

well they checked the injectors and said they were fine so that verifies what the other guy told me. I just started having a strange feeling bout that dude. ill pull that solenoid tomorrow
Brad, all the dealers round here are a PITA.... wish we had someone like doug up here

They are more than likely bluffing you on haveing a p1000 code in the memory. I wouldn't sweat it.
