View Full Version : Downpipe resonator......and intro

First, hello all. Newb here to the site and newb to the 6.0. Had a 7.3 for years and years, but finally decided to upgrade to a newer truck. Found an 05 with a clean Oasis report, so here I am.
Now to my question, I've read on here about the resonator on the dp, and about cutting it off to get some more whistle. Crawled under the truck today to take a look at what it was gonna take to get it off until a new exhaust comes.
I'll be damned if my dp isn't clean as a bell, no resonator or box or chamber looking anything on it. And I also noticed that the bends are pretty good (expecting to see crappy crimped bends like I've read) and appear to be mandrel bent. It's 3" the entire length, except for the flare at the turbo end for the clamp.
Rest of the exhaust looks oem (muff the size of a fuel tank and probably heavy as a full fuel tank), and they kitty is there, so now I'm figuring that this dp has been changed. Does anyone have a pic of the oem dp with the resonator?
Thanks
Dan

Welcome to GOGO. Are you just wanting more Whistle?

Yes, but not the main goal. Just read about the resonator and I'm all about doing the free easy mods when they're there.
I know the dp is smallish only being 3", but it's got me thinking. This truck is a CC F350 DRW and is intended for pulling my 5th wheel. The exhaust will be replaced at least from the cat back. The kitty has to stay for the yearly inspections, although it's just visual inspection to see if you have one, so it will get "cleaned out" when I put a new exhaust on. I know that a 3.5" or 4" dp will have much better mid and upper performance and lower egt's but take away a little low end and spool up. So maybe this assumably better flowing (than stock) 3" dp would suit my needs and retain better grunt getting things moving?
Dunno, just weighing options at this point. And want to 100% confirm this dp is not stock.
And thanks for the welcome.

The stock DP has no resonator. I would just get a cat delete pipe and change it yearly. its really not hard at all. it seems i do it all the time......dealer reasons.....But factory DP is clean

The 03 has the resonator on it to control the whistle. I did the 3.5 to 4 MBRP set up. You can get it with cat delete pipe and change it easily or like you said just clean it out. For the little extra money do the turbo back and do the S.S, not the aluminized.

Ahh, so the 05 does not have the resonator. Gotcha, newb mistake #1 for me.:banging:
Thanks for the input.
So I'll probably be going with a new 3.5" dp and 4" after the cat. I guess I'll just have give in and have SCT give me some more get-up-n-go for getting the trailer moving:rockwoot:

What all have you done to the truck so far?

So far, just an awesome high performance air freshener in the dash vents:hehe: I've only had the truck a couple weeks.
Now since it seems the dp is in fact stock, the truck is 100% stock.
Immediate plans will be limited to exhaust and tuner, and of course gauges.
Speaking of gauges......I know a pyro is a must, I know the tranny temp gauge is little more than an idiot light with a needle, but why does everyone add a boost gauge? Is the oem gauge inaccurate?

I believe the 05 and up trucks come with boost gauges. The 03-04 didn't have them. If I was pulling I would do Pyro trans and diff. Why put in a boost gauge if you already have one.
Get the tow tune from Doug. I heard it was the best.
What kind of power are you getting from the air freshener? He He

The package said 7-10hp. But I'm using two, so I figure at least a 20hp increase. But the best part is the 3mpg increase.:D
I imagine I'll be talking to Doug soon.

dougs towing tune is awesome. I was using eric at innovative but it pulled almost as hard as my extreme tune did down low and figured it wasnt the best for my truck with 14k+ behind it. the trans contros are amazing that is he best part!!!

Its a 3" pipe. Its better to go with a bigger pipe. I was once told that the 3.5 is the best set up for street. Less turbo lag. 4 " is better for racing.
