You always say that Valvoline syhetic is the best oil to use. I only drive 7 miles 1 way top work and go maybe between 8k and 10k per year. I changed my oil at 1400 miles w/ regular Valvoline blue and I now have 3000 miles on that oil. Is it best to go every 3k with valvoline blue or go 6k with the synthetic? All in all the cost would be about the same other that the oil filter extra change and doing it is easy so I dont mind. I run an SCT tuner, but like I said my concern is in the minimal mileage I put on. What is the best to do in my case, I am in NY so we have all 4 seasons? I also need an intake, what do you recommend as the best one to get? Thanks.

I think Doug is out of town so it may take a few days to hear from him. I sent him a PM yesterday, but it says his last activity was 8-16.

I always put Airaids in trucks. Have yet to have an issue with them, whereas the AFE had the MAF problems and they still fucked that up on the 08s. We run the synthetic and we go 10,000 miles on the oil changes. We tow heavy and I personally beat the living shit out of my truck. The 05 now has 81k on it and the 07 is trying to catch me with 42000 on it. 0 injectors replaced, 0 problems with the motor that I did not create myself. The standard drain interval is 7500 miles which was cut down to around 6000 miles on non severe service. But with the short trips you would probably want to go about 5000 miles or every few months. HOWEVER all of the new CJ-4 oil SPECIFICALLY states that if you run it with low sulfur 500ppm diesel that the drain interval is CUT IN HALF. The oil was designed to run with 15ppm sulfur diesel. So keep that in mind when you are filling up. This is just like Ford stated with CI-4 plus that if you ran high sulphur highway diesel to cut the drain interval to 2500 miles. The synthetic I would imagine would probably fair better against the higher sulphur but since you dont really drive far enough to get the oil up to operating temps to burn off the moisture that condenses into the oil I would probably just run the cheaper stuff and change it more often.

Ah shit! I got the sythetic, I figured it would be better to run synthetic if I am using the tuner. I run ultralow sulfer fuel. Never checked the ppm. So you vote nay on the AFE then? Hmm, back to shopping.

Thats my luck. I just ditched the Airaid for the AFE stg 2 enclosed.:banging:

One of our trucks had the AFE stage 2 and we ditched it to go back with the stock filter. Over priced junk that didnt help nothing.

the best intake on the market is the k&n, i got mine from pep boys..on the dyno it made 26hp and 73 lbs/tq
i paired that up with a 3" straight pipe exhaust. probably the 2 best mods i have done so far to the truck.
oil, im still running the factory oil, when the weather gets a little warmer ill be going with some kind of aftermarket oil.

I am a big fan of the AMSOIL products. they have some really good stuff that I run in the truck, mustang, and race car (mustang). use their oil and trans fluid.
since you drive such short milage though, i don't know that it would be worth it.

He would actually only be doing 1 oil change per year though. As a test in our 07 truck. We have been doing oil changes every 10-12k miles. So far at almost 90k miles now with an SCT in there for almost the life of the truck it has no signs of injector or high pressure oil system problems.
