what for= less air flow restriction and knowing it will never stick in the closed position.
the throttle plate is not used in any pcm strategies anyway.
bad=nothing i can think of.

some of the early built 04"s have them. if you do just take it out! It wont hurt anything when i removed mine i did not notice any seat of the pants difference but I'm sure it helped a littel. a smooth running engine is in the details

With a tune the light was out

The later calibrations eliminated the light. If I remember correctly.

I got reflashed 4 days ago and the light still comes on when I disconnect the two plugs that hook to the throttle plate.
Mine must be because I have CA emissions

Aftermarket,

Banks High ram, I have one on my truck.

if you get a banks watch for the rubber seals under the bolts, the ones that hold the elbo down. i have seen several blow-out and cause a loss of boost or make a siren noise.
not bashing on banks but they are a problem. look at the acufab-cfmplus and others.

Banks High Ram is huge $$$$$ Accufab is a little over $100

will this aftermarket elbow eliminate my butterfly?..or do i still need to do the removal and then the elbow...i think the fly is not in the elbow???

nummit
02-06-2008, 11:25 AM
If you go with an 05+ style elbow it will delete the butterfly. The 04- style will leave the butterfly intact
I have the 05+ elbow on my 04 truck, but I get a check engine light with the SCT file removed. Not a real big deal unless you still have part of your 100k engine warranty, and you need dealer service. I never take my truck in for service with a file loaded, which means if I don't put the stock elbow on I take the truck in with a check engine light light on for an issue that isn't the actual reason my truck is there. Swapping the elbow takes less than 20 min, but its still a PITA

good point....glad to hear just oredering a 05 elbow will fix the problem...

will an accufab also fix it...remove it?...

got a part number on the 05??

actually there are some stock programming that still uses this, it is for egr flow when the egr valve opens it closes, forcing more of the egr into the intake,
yes some trucks dont use it anymore, and even more trucks have a "empty" throttle body, but it is used in some vehicles..

not mine of course, i took it out a while ago .. ")

the later tunes also used the scoop in the up pipe..

i cant imagine his 04 throwing a code for removing the plate, unless he removed the entire throttle body, or unplugged it somehow..

just unbolting the plate from the throttle body will NOT throw a code since the computer does not know the difference, ESPECIALLY on an 04 which did not measure egr flow anyway.

and yes mine had one, and no it didnt set off CEL..

no need to disconnect the plugs, you actually remove the throttle body, then unscrew the "plate" from the post in your throttle body, then bolt it back on and leave it plugged in..

even when the valve "closes" there is no plate, so you still have full flow even in the closed position and the computer never has to know

will this aftermarket elbow eliminate my butterfly?..or do i still need to do the removal and then the elbow...i think the fly is not in the elbow???

only 03-04 had the throttle body, 05 and up did not stock..

that is why the a/m elbows for 05 up and longer, so what i recomend you do is to remove the throttle body completely (if you plan on a/m elbow i mean) and order one for a newer truck, they are longer and will make up the difference for the missing t/b.. does this make sense ???]=

just cause there are wires doesnt mean there's a plate.. some of them had a "fake" t/b like i mentioned with wires, but they plugged into "dummY" connectors that did not go to anything..

if you have sct you wont have to worry about CEL anyway since you can turn off egr function anyway....

hope this helps...

or you could find a stock intake off a newer truck from a buddy and just use it to replace your t/b..

well, so if i get it..there is a a t-body and a elbow on the older trucks...and newer ones just got a longer elbow...

anybody know a part number on the longer elbow from a new truck?..then i can just remove my plate and elbow as one and swap for newer..

i am sct tuned...and i understand i may have to swap back for dealer service..no biggie..

i dont know about part numbers, but even when you switch back to stock, you should be okay...
if you go a/m just tell the vendor you want the newer elbow they'll know which one...
or if you have a buddy w/newer truck who has an a/m elbow, ask him for his stocker.

yeah the guy's name is aaron...
anytime you wanna eliminate that whole throttle body assembly, whether you go with a CFM+, banks, accufab, or whatever just say you want one for the 05and up, and it will be longer and make up for where the throttle body was...

i've heard quite a few people have used aarons elbows, they are nothing really fancy or cast or cnc'd , but they do what they were designed to do, and are the same you could make in your shop if you had a tig welder and proper machine shop tools.. but if i recall the prices were very reasonable.
his website is pretty cool, lots of custom intakes on some pretty bad ass race cars !

If you can find somebody that upgraded to a CFM+ unit, IPD or Intake Elbows then you could probably pick up a stock elbow pretty cheap.
