My truck will shift into 4x4 but won't shift back to 2wheel (ESOF). Dealer thinks it's the GEM module. Can I get a module out of another truck and plug it in or does it need to be programmed to my truck? Does the other truck need to have the same options as mine? Does it need to be diesel?
Thanks

You hear it clunk into 4x4 but it wont come back? It could be the switch or the contact plate on the transfer case.

I used 4x4 and it wouldn't shift back to 2 wheel. I could tell it was in 4x4 not just the light on in the dash.So then like the dumbass that I am I thought I would put it in low range. Low range worked but could not get back to 4hi or 2hi. Tech said he took the shift motor off t-case and he could shift it manually then he put a new shift motor on and it still wouldn't work.He said tests point to GEM module but he wanted to get in touch with tech line.Tech line said same thing GEM module. Not covered under my Ford ESP. I was wondering if I could get one from the wreckers.

Just in case anyone is following this and you run into this problem, it might not be the shift motor, or an expensive gem module, or any other kind of module. Have the guy check the regular old Bosch relays under the hood instead of spending 9 hours trying to throw all that other shit at it.

I was in the middle of getting you the relay info. Ha. Samething with wiper motors in certain vehicles. The shift motor moves to the desired location and then the plate says hey buddy I made it over to where you told me. The switch tells the module then the module uses the relays.

That's funny. I was just looking at a similar diagram I found. Apparently my relays had moisture in them
