I was told today that the new 08 's do have the ability to "see" if a tuner has been used but that Ford has that feature tuend off inside the computer.
Question is: If I tune my new 08, can Ford see it or will any traces be left inside the PCM?
PLEASE be honest, I do not want to avoid my warranty.

From my understanding is that when Doug hooked up his analyzer thingie to my truck  or what ever it is called, and looked at all the parameters the PCM tracks....... If you have a tune that disables the regen, they would be able to figure out that you had it modified because the PCM records every regen. If you have 40000 miles and only 20 recorded, you don't have to be a rocket engineer to figure it out. Although I wonder about some techs!!!!

I was told by a VERY reputable Ford tuner that the capability is there but Ford has it turned off (for whatever reason).
My source works very close to some major Ford engineers and they (supposedly) confirmed this info.
I agree with you Grizzly, it would stand to reason that simple logic would tell you that 2 + 2 = 4 and any other answer, other than 4 would be wrong and Ford SHOULD be able to see anything that is not a "normal" parameter.
BUT again according to my informant, the PCM is capable of seeing the info, but that part of the PCM has been disabled.
SO...?????????????????????????????????????????

If I had a 6.4L there is no way I would put any tunes on it.
It is not worth the risk of voiding the warrantee. Period.
The head diesel tech who "takes care of me and my mods" on my 05' 6.0L told me that he would not be able to do this any longer with these new trucks - as it is permanently logged in the PCM.
Wether it is "turned off" now (temporarily?) or not wouldn't matter to me...who's to say when they will "turn it on" again? If I were to get a 6.4L....it would be an F450 King Ranch; and the simple matter of fact for this owner is NO TUNERS....this is too much $$$ to risk losing the warrantee for a truck that already has decent power.
But this is just my opinion!

I agree with you James. No tuner for me either. AT least not until the warranty runs out or I get some definite proof that Ford can't "see" traces of a tuner.
I too have a mod friendly dealership who said NO to the 6.4L mods but only time will tell if that changes. I was told the same thing the day the 6.0L rolled out too and my dealership helped me block off the EGR and install the headstuds.....so???
