What do you guys think about an aftermarket converter on a nearly stock 4R100?
I got a BTS Valvebody already, but I've been contemplating the pros and cons. A converter is something that I'd be interested in doing sooner than later.
The only aftermarket one I've really thought about that I've seen talked about a lot is the Precision Industries converter. The PI converter is praised on gas 4R100s though, don't know how it is on a diesel. I'd consider all options, but the only other Diesel 4R100 converters I've seen are made by Factory Tech, Suncoast, TCI and Circle D.

The main advantage you would see at this point would be changing your stall speed. I'm no auto tranny expert but from what I've seen the converter seems to be the really weak point on the 4R100. The converter goes and sends debris throughout the rest of the tranny trashing it as well.
It would be no means be a waste of money. Since you don't seem to have any aspirations of creating any more power than you do already, I think the tranny would hold up just fine with the BTS valvebody in place.

Thats what I was thinking, but I also think it would help with the power I have now and hopefully hold the power a lot longer than a stock converter can take!

buy the adapter and spacers from john wood and run a 6.0 converter..they hold up pretty good.

The biggest thing also is the overheating of the converter. As it overheats the fluid it tends to blow out the front pump seal as well. The billet backs on the upgrade converters help keep the converter clutch from shuddering since the back wont warp. Get the larger cooler. Also keep in the back of your mind that as you add power to this unit that it will probably kill the intermediate sprag. You will know when the transmission starts off in second gear.

I had forgotten about a 6.0 converter, I'm still leaning on a PI one though. I sent them an email, and they seem to be more encouraged in a positive than a negative way on the effects of a converter on a nearly stock 4R100.
