During my Dynatrac install I decided to see how hard it would be to just replace the stock bearings.

Well....getting it out is too easy,..remove C-clip, flip over hub,..knock it out by hitting the outter race with something and Voila!...done.

Now for the hard part...finding the bearing...

After spending hours on the phone, and the internet,...I found the only place/country that had them in Japan...to be exact...Tianjin, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Shanghai.

After talking to a couple companies, I found them!!!!

Kaman Industrial Technologies can get them....I'm talking with one of the Reps tomorrow on pricing and availability.

So now if anyone says that 05+ front wheel bearings can only be purchased through Ford, and only as one complete hub assembly($280-$500).......you can now tell them that there are other ways to skin a cat.

The price has come down to the 225 dollar range. How much are just the bearings and I wonder what gets destroyed taking the old one apart and putting the new one together.

I was told it is in the $60 range...

...and as for what gets ruined...ummm....I guess the dirt gets ruined when you remove the C-clip...but if your not worried about disturbing the dirt...then nothing is ruined...

With your knowledge base..I'm sure you could get it out quicker than I could.......
.....it took me about 30 seconds,..the c-clip plies were hard to learn...:hehe:

How to get it out was described in my first post.

I guess you haven't seen one ruined to the point of setting the ABS light.

what the hell does that have to do with replacing the bearing????

if it's bad enough to come apart and screw with the ABS ,...then it obviously need to be replaced right?

and correct me if I'm wrong(or in your case...correct me even when I'm right).....but if you replace the bearing,..then there won't be an issue.....unless new bearings cause ABS sensors to fail.....if that happens to you frequently....you may want to let someone else do the work on your truck....and you just sit back and draw pretty pictures on your fancy computer.

OK here it is 05+ wheel bearing:

Hank at Kaman Industrial Technologies--1-850-484-7000

the part # on the bearing - 6009LU...transfers to SKF 60092RS JEM

$57.52 ea.

He was amazed that the bearing Ford uses,..he says it's a light duty bearing that shouldn't be in a truck for anything other than a clutch fan bearing...LOL

Did you compare load rating specs? Just because a bearing matches the physical size of the original does not mean it's the same bearing. Company's will often contract a proprietary bearing based on an existing sized unit but much different on it's duty rating.

Jay are you saying this replacement is heavier duty than the OEM bearing?

That is what I'm told...but I don't know for sure...I don't have one in hand

Did you get new studs and o-rings with the new bearing?

Studs came with the Dynatrac kit,...and I have manual hubs

So what the fuck does the studs coming with a dynatrac kit have to do with a ghetto bearing replacement?

I'm interested to know why changing studs is so important for a bearing replacement.

Much like his personal life, Doug gets bored with the same studs frequently and likes to change them out whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Never had them break when removing the hub assembly?

Ok, So I'll change the thread title. Cheap way to replace bearing, but not for those that have ESOF or live in climates that may generate rusted nuts and bolts.

This is now similar to the BHAF (broke hillbilly air filtration) leave the intake air temp sensor dangling in the engine compartment setup.

Tank, What are you going to do about the actual bearing thats bad and not just the axle bearing?

Matt. It's the same application. The outter bearing is still there and it was changed from tapered on the inside to what you see in Tank's picture.

I agree that the bearing Tank is showing is not all there is to the unit. Give us the scoop Doug, is it worth fooling with or are we just better off to purchase the entire unit from mother Ford?

Never really investigated locating the individual pieces. You would have to look at each individual truck. And then see whats salvagable. But even if you did and then the hub didn't seal vacuum, you would want to kill the person that wrote a DIY how to change just the bearings.

on a stock 2005 F250 PSD , CC, shortbed,...there is only that one bearing in the hub....

Sorry,...I posted a bunch of stuff that wasn't relevant to the bearing,...I just figured if Doug was going to post un-needed info so would I.

I don't need the bearing, I have a Dynatrac kit now,..I was just letting everyone know that 05+ hubs are serviceable,....and I provided a place to get them.....done.

If Doug is breaking wheel studs changing out a bearing on a 05+ superduty,..he should rethink his mechanical skills,..because the only way to break one is if you have fat little twinky fingers and you drop the entire hub assembly on the concrete as you take it off.

Your questioning dougs skills? I'd be willing to bet doug can at least use a tube bender.

I'm not talking about the wheel studs dipshit. I'm talking about the 4 studs that hold the unit bearing in place.
