Here is the factory guide to oil changes. The motor takes 15 quarts. If you have a lift kit or leveling kit or your driveway is sloped then the stick will be off. Follow the guide and you won't go wrong.

I personally hate Rotella. I have found in speaking with a large number of people that the ones that had injector problems were running Rotella.

What I have found to work the best is Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40 for conventional oil, and Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5w-40 full synthetic.

How often between changes? Any difference if the EGR has been deleted?

6500 if you are in a mild climate and do no towing. 5000 miles in an extreme climate like FL. If you switch to the synthetic it has a double the drain interval. So if you were doing 6500 then you could go to 12-13000. And if you were doing 5000 you could go to 10,000. Adding in an Oil Guard Bypass system will ease your mind about the extended intervals and with testing they can be further extended if the oil comes back good.

also
for some reason the oil guard and probably alot more than we know of
the filter sometimes doenst seat right and close the drain valve, thats why the no return flow is seen often in the bypass return to the oil cap.
there is a distinct pop type noise to let you know its seated.
I suspect that there are many folks running around with the filter not quite seated correctly and its not filtering the oil, but you do have PSI.
i have an install write up somewhere around here if you want it

just my nickle

this is my second system.

Interesting. I don't have flow at idle. And that was with the filter installed from Oilguard and when I changed it.

froggy
when i installed mine on the 6.0 I about ripped my hair our trying to get flow, i thought maybe i had run a hose backwards .\
after two filters and alot of cut fingers i felt the filter POP as i tightened the filter cap.
started her up and counted to 60, and bam i had a good stream from teh return .
I mentioned it a few times on some other sites but i geuss i was the only one.
so every oil change i check it now for flow. ( at idle i get good steady stream of around 1/2 cup every 30 seconds plus or minus)

intersting thing is you get oil pressure and the idiot light goes of, its just UNFILTERED and most of it drops thru the dran valve. so bearings and turbo bearings are possibly not getting enough lubrication.
just thinking outloud

stock filter and oil guard filter, it seems if they are just a bit cocked they get mushed and dont seat the valve

speed kills in this maintenance task, slow and steady wins out

RE: Filter seating ...

I check my oil flow by grabbing the OilGuard "sump" after I drive to work (30 mi.)
If it is hot, and I have been driving 30 minutes or so ... I figure I have cycled about 30 quarts of oil thru the OilGuard, and a lot more through the "full flow" filter.

I did find that when I ran a napa filter flow through the oilgaurd is nothing at idle. I put a motorcraft filter in it and it started flowing at idle.

its an aftermarket auxiliary oil filtration system that gives better filtration and allows for extended drain intervals
no need to check for flow thru one if ya dont have it:D

So the oil filters will last up to 6500 / 12 to 13,000 or would it be ok to drop a new filter in ?

The filters last because there isn't really anything comming apart inside the motor.
