View Full Version : Why not to work alone.

I was just doing an EGR delete on my truck now that I have the opportunity to down it for a few days. Started at 6pm. Still not put back together and its 7am the next morning. Had someone come pick me up from the warehouse because if I had found 5 gallons of fuel I would have lit it on fire. I needed an extra set of hands somewhere between 12 and 2am this morning, but since I was alone I wound up rounding off the bolt. Now the truck sits torn down to almost the point of putting head studs in it. I do have some studs sitting here. But I may just throw it back together to go somewhere to pull the cab and do it easier. While the turbo is off, I did open it up and clean it out. Didn't look to bad. And I have put 2 cans of gunk "foamy" degreeser in the intake manifold. It hasn't really done anything to get all that oil and soot accumulation out. The hose to the MAP sensor looked like it may clog up from the oil/soot residue so if you are having boost issues check the little nipple on the manifold. While the manifold is off we may have to extrude hone it or perhaps port it a little bit. But now its time to take a nap.

And you gave me a hard time for not doing it myself.

Did you put the pyro in the turbo yet and if your trucks running now, what egts are you seeing up there? How much does the exhaust cool off?

Pyro is in the turbo. I drilled and tapped the exhaust housing where the up pipes connect. I will post a pic later.

Is it better to have it close to the turbo?

Closest to the turbo will give the most accurate reading. If its in the manifold you could be getting a higher number because its close to a cylinder.

how do you go about doing this? im having some pretty serious boost lag..jw if this could cause/help is cleaned. Thanks!

Remove the hose from the map where it connects to the intake manifold. Unscrew the brass fitting and check it to see if its plugged or restricted. A 6.0L is always going to have a little more lag than a 7.3L so you may not have a problem.

You do it becasue this is what your turbo could look like. Mine how about 35000 miles in this pic before I did it.
